General Dentistry

A very important part of preventive dentistry is routine professional care. For many patients, this means that they should visit the dentist for an examination and cleaning. Regular examinations can prevent small problems from becoming larger problems, requiring more extensive (and expensive) treatment.

Continual Care Program

The focus of dental hygiene services is oral prophylaxis, in the past referred to as teeth cleaning. This involves scaling—the removal of hard deposits above (supragingival) and below (subgingival) the gum line. These deposits aid the development of the bacterial colonies that cause periodontal (gum) disease and can cause loose teeth and root decay. Since periodontal disease begins below the gum line, scaling must also be done below the gum line.

When performed by untrained personnel, polishing procedures can cause harmful changes in the teeth, remove the outer layer of enamel containing protective fluoride, and damage the tooth structure underneath. Tocci Dental Associates are highly trained specialists, providing you with an outstanding level of technical expertise and care. Sealants

Among other preventative services, our dental hygiene services include application of pit-and-fissure sealants. Sealants are thin plastic coatings that seal crevices in permanent teeth and act as a physical barrier to prevent oral bacteria from collecting and creating the acid environment that allows tooth decay to develop. The application process involved in applying sealants is comfortable & quick. The cost of preventing tooth decay by placing dental sealants is much less than treating oral disease once it has developed.

Fluorides

We also utilize application of topical fluorides, which protect the surfaces of teeth from decay. Professionally applied by our dental hygienists, topical fluoride can reverse early tooth demineralization by helping tooth enamel rebuild itself.

Dr Tocci excels in the restoration and replacement of teeth. Extensive training and education undertaken by Dr. Tocci has provided him with the skills for restoring optimum function and esthetics to your smile. Dr. Tocci offers diagnosis and comprehensive, non-surgical, neuromuscular treatment of TemporoMandibular Disorder (TMD).

TMD has been called the "great imposter" because of the wide and varied range of symptoms. This often results in many unnecessary medical and dental office visits and sometimes unnecessary treatments.

TMD is usually a group of conditions, often painful, that affect the jaw joint (temporomandibular joint, or TMJ) and the muscles that control chewing. The disorders appear to affect about twice as many women as men. A variety of symptoms include:

Pain, particularly in the chewing muscles and/or jaw joint, is the most common symptom.
Limited movement or locking of the jaw.
Radiating pain in the face, neck or shoulders.
Painful clicking, popping or grating sounds in the jaw joint when opening or closing the mouth.
A sudden, major change in the way the upper and lower teeth fit together.

Symptoms such as headaches, earaches, dizziness and hearing problems may sometimes be related to TMD.

Dr. Tocci prescribes individual care as well as properly fabricated orthopedic guards to ensure the long-term health of your jaw joints and teeth and to relieve the symptoms of TMD.

Conscious Sedation Dentistry

Once you've experienced sedation dentistry with Dr. Tocci, you'll probably never be afraid to go to the dentist again. You'll be sedated just enough to be unaware of the treatment, as if you were relaxing. You'll have little or no memory of what was accomplished. Because you are completely comfortable, Dr. Tocci can do years of dental treatments in as little as one or two visits. Facts About Sedation Dentistry:

It Really Works! You really can relax through your dental appointment.

It Is Safe! Dr. Tocci will give you a small pill prior to treatment
You will have little or no memory of the experience. You probably won't remember any sounds or smells.
You will relax for up to five or six hours after taking the pill. The time you are relaxing will vary depending on your needed treatment.
Complex dental treatments that often require six to eight appointments can be done in as little as one at Tocci Dental! All while you relax.
